A Friday Shorty From The Junnkyard
May 22, 2009
1. Junkyard has been screaming for months that Browns kicker Phil Dawson deserved a re-done contract.
Things should have never come to this. That’s for sure.
Just give Dawson his new deal, already.
2. What’s the main thing we took from the Cavs’ Game 1 loss to Orlando - and the only thing to REALLY remember heading into Game 2 tonight?
It’s what Orlando head coach Stan Van Gundy said to his players during Game 1 as the Magic gradually cut into the Cavs early lead - and Cleveland clearly began feeling the pressure:
“Everything’s been easy for them,” Van Gundy told his players about the Cavs. “They don’t know about this. We do.”
To us, THAT’S the main thing that will determine this series.
Can the Cavs play a complete 48 minutes of playoff basketball when there’s no star player on the opposing team (Rasheed Wallace) who appears to completely quit playing?
When there’s no opposing head coach whose idea of playoff coaching consists of standing on the sideline, looking stern and gesturing a lot?
(And that’s it?)
When there’s opposing players who actually try to stop Cavs superstar LeBron James when he’s driving the lane?
Players who aren’t moving out of the way because they’re terrified everyone will talk about LeBron dunking on them?
Are the Cavs really ready for THAT kind of playoff basketball?
Well, if they are, we need to see it tonight.
3. Frankly, we don’t blame the Indians if they DO have some concerns about starting pitcher Fausto Carmona.
He doesn’t seem anywhere close to the promising pitcher we saw in 2007.
It may be time for the Indians to cash in and trade Carmona - while he still has some value and lingering rep from 2007.
