Matt Underwood
Matt Underwood enters his fifth season as a member of the STO team providing play-by-play for the Indians telecasts and as co-host of The Tribe Report during the Indians offseason. Matt also hosts Indians 1-on-1 and provides play-by-play for the OHSAA football playoffs and state championship games on STO. Beginning in the Fall of 2010, Matt will also do the play-by-play for all MAC football games on STO.
He spent seven seasons as a member of the Tribe radio broadcast team and 13 seasons, from 1994-2006, as host of Indians Warm-up, the pre-game show heard on the Cleveland Indians Radio Network. He also hosted the TV pre-game show for Indians baseball for nine seasons.
Matt spent 16 years in various capacities with local ABC affiliate WEWS-TV5. He continued that relationship for six years in a part-time role after joining the Tribe radio broadcast team for the 2000 season. He served as the station's sports director from 1997-2000. In addition to anchoring the 6pm and 11pm sports, he also hosted the weekly half-hour show, Sports Sunday. Underwood also co-hosted a daily talk show on SportsRadio WKNR (1993-94).
In addition to his support of Cleveland Indians Charities, Matt also helps to raise money for The Gathering Place, a non-profit cancer support center. The past 2 seasons, Matt and his partner Rick Manning each donate $5 for each homerun hit by the Indians to The Gathering Place.
The Ashland, OH native graduated from Baldwin-Wallace College in 1990. Matt currently resides in Avon Lake with his wife, Shelley. They have two children, Max and Devan.
